Title: Of Fields and Thestrals
Rating: PG
Pairing(s): Harry/Draco
Summary: Of all the things Harry thought he’d see today this certainly featured nowhere on his list.
Warnings: Extreme randomness
Length: Short (sorry, no exact word count due to my new computer not yet having Office installed)
Author's Notes: So this is just a really silly fic that came to me whilst driving through the countryside back in Spring. Huge thank you to my beta [ profile] avrildulac who pointed out that not everyone is familiar with animal biology (and who probably thinks I'm a bit crazy for writing this!)

So it's the 15th May already - only two weeks until my birthday - and it's making me feel depressingly old. Also so much to do and not enough time to do it in; where is the time going?

The house is still a complete mess from when we found mice living in the loft a couple of weeks ago. We emptied the whole thing, but I have yet to find the motivation to put everything back. Maybe this weekend it will finally get done!

In happier news I have just been introduced to the wonderful world of Johnlock fanfiction, thanks to [ profile] avrildulac. This prompted me to actually watch an episode of Sherlock when it was on BBC3 last Monday; the first one I've ever seen. My mind has now been blown away by the sheer awesomeness of the whole thing and all I can say is - how have I not seen this before?!

Actually it's because I really love the original books, and the much earlier TV series and I got totally excited about the film that came out a few years back, only to give up about 20 minutes into the film when it turned out to be completely horrible and awful and just everything Sherlock isn't. I didn't dare watch the TV series in case it was equally as awful, but it seems my fears were completely unfounded. Benedict Cumberbach is completely wonderful, as is Martin Freeman, and now I desperately need to sit down and watch the other 8 episodes back to back (the fact that there's only 8 is killing me, how has anyone watching it from the beginning survived this complete lack of material to drool over?) Also apparently I watched the worst episode according to this so clearly there is much more wonderfulness to come.

So that's it really, I just wanted to share my happiness at this wonderful revelation! I shall now go back to feeling old and despairing at the fact that I can't get into my spare room. :)

I really need to get some writing done, like my entry for smoochfest, but I lack motivation at the moment so instead I've just cross-posted my 'That Picture' Flash Fest entry so I've got all my fics in one place. It's terrible procrastination. Next I may go read some fics instead of actually writing one.

On another note I'm very much looking forward to being able to reply to the comments on my dracotops_harry entry. It makes me feel terribly guilty seeing people taking the time to comment and not being able to reply. Roll on the end of April! (Although not too fast because, you know, smoochfest deadline and all that.)

I sent the final fic for a prompt that I've claimed to my beta today so I'm feeling quite accomplished. Now I just have to decide what to do about That Picture. I desperately want to write a fic for it but none of the prompts are really calling out to me. I love elements of a lot of them but none of them seem to want to form a proper story in my head. I'm thinking I might just self prompt and my prompt will literally be "That Picture and the caption it was originally given."

It's such an amazing picture that the moment I saw it I started writing the text to go with it in my head, even before the fest was announced. There isn't much back story to what I want to write, or indeed much follow on story, but the words for that scene just want to be written. Is that too boring? Is it too much like what's already there? I have no idea, but I might just write it anyway and see if what comes out is worth working with.

In completely separate news I read Draco Malfoy: Toilet Supremo by [ profile] who_la_hoop the other day and I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a fanfic in my life. It's completely hilarious, fantastically well written and just altogether completely wonderful. I know it's several months old and I'm extremely late to the party, but I just couldn't let it pass without a mention.

Finally to complete the randomness I was tidying up my LJ today and remembered that last time I delved into writing fanfic, which was several years ago, I wasn't actually completely useless at writing one-shots. I managed to produce Memories, which despite recent success with one-shots still holds the title of the shortest thing I've ever written. My mission now is to best that. I feel a fic coming on...
